Chapter 4

1 MY beloved, do not believe every prophecy, but examine the prophecies to find out if they are of God: because many false prophets have appeared in the world.

2 The Spirit of God is known by this: Every prophecy which declares that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is from God.

3 And every prophecy which does not declare that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not from God: but it is the prophecy of the false Christ, of whose coming you have heard, and who is even now already in the world.

4 But you are of God, my children, and have overcome them: because he who is among you is greater than he who is in the world.

5 They are of the world; therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

6 But we are of God: he who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

7 My beloved, let us love one another: for love is from God; and every one who loves is born of God, and knows God.

8 He who does not love, does not know God; for God is love.

9 By this was the love of God toward us made known, for God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that God loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 My beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us;

13 Hereby we know that we abide in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

16 And we have believed and have known the love that God has for us. God is love; and he who dwells in love, abides in God.

17 Herein is his love made perfect in us, so that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear is tormenting. He who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love God because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God, and yet hates his brother, he is a liar: for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

21 And this commandment we have from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.

3 And every3956 spirit4151 that confesses3670 not that Jesus2424 Christ5547 is come2064 in the flesh4561 is not of God:2316 and this5124 is that spirit of antichrist,500 whereof3739 you have heard191 that it should come;2064 and even2532 now3568 already2235 is it in the world.2889

4 You are of God,2316 little5040 children,5040 and have overcome3528 them: because3754 greater3187 is he that is in you, than2228 he that is in the world.2889

5 They are of the world:2889 therefore1223 5124 speak2980 they of the world,2889 and the world2889 hears191 them.

6 We are of God:2316 he that knows1097 God2316 hears191 us; he that is not of God2316 hears191 not us. Hereby1537 5124 know1097 we the spirit4151 of truth,225 and the spirit4151 of error.4106

7 Beloved,27 let us love25 one240 another:240 for love26 is of God;2316 and every3956 one that loves25 is born1080 of God,2316 and knows1097 God.2316

8 He that loves25 not knows1097 not God;2316 for God2316 is love.26

9 In this5129 was manifested5319 the love26 of God2316 toward1722 us, because3754 that God2316 sent649 his only3439 begotten3439 Son5207 into1519 the world,2889 that we might live2198 through1223 him.

10 Herein1722 5129 is love,26 not that we loved25 God,2316 but that he loved25 us, and sent649 his Son5207 to be the propitiation2434 for our sins.266

11 Beloved,27 if1487 God2316 so3779 loved25 us, we ought3784 also2532 to love25 one240 another.240

12 No3762 man3762 has seen2300 God2316 at4455 any4455 time.4455 If1437 we love26 one240 another,240 God2316 dwells3306 in us, and his love25 is perfected5048 in us.

13 Hereby1722 5129 know1097 we that we dwell3306 in him, and he in us, because3754 he has given1325 us of his Spirit.4151

14 And we have seen2300 and do testify3140 that the Father3962 sent649 the Son5207 to be the Savior4990 of the world.2889

15 Whoever3739 302 shall confess3670 that Jesus2424 is the Son5207 of God,2316 God2316 dwells3306 in him, and he in God.2316

16 And we have known1097 and believed4100 the love26 that God2316 has2192 to us. God2316 is love;26 and he that dwells3306 in love26 dwells3306 in God,2316 and God2316 in him.

17 Herein1722 5129 is our love26 made5048 perfect,5048 that we may have2192 boldness3954 in the day2250 of judgment:2920 because3754 as he is, so2532 are we in this5129 world.2889

18 There is no3756 fear5401 in love;26 but perfect5046 love26 casts906 out fear:5401 because3754 fear5401 has2192 torment.2851 He that fears5399 is not made5048 perfect5048 in love.26

19 We love25 him, because3754 he first4413 loved25 us.

20 If1437 a man say,2036 I love25 God,2316 and hates3404 his brother,80 he is a liar:5583 for he that loves25 not his brother80 whom3739 he has seen,3708 how4459 can1410 he love25 God2316 whom3739 he has not seen?3708
